We had a wonderful relaxing stay at villa honegg. The view is simply out of this world, and the highlight of the hotel. We had rented a car so we drove there, it is isolated as other reviews have mentioned and the roads leading up to it do get quite narrow at one point. So you either spend your whole stay at the hotel or if you have a car you can discover nearby villages like Lucerne (but I recommend returning before it gets dark due to the roads) The food at the hotel was very good honestly and so was the service, we had a very good experience. One of the days it was quite cold and foggy and raining all day but we were able to spend time in the pool as it is heated, and you can access it from the spa inside then swim out through an opening, so it's quite an experience. The view is out of this world and you could spend hours looking at it.. There are activities you can arrange through the hotel but they depend on the weather, they also have a small cinéma that you can reserve and watch a movie. Overall we had a wonderful and relaxing few days at villa honegg, we would definitely love to go back again!

I travel a lot. I love staying in boutique high end hotels and stay in them often. One of the reason I love them is the service. Hotel Villa Honegg’s service is probably one of the worst I’ve experienced. The hotel staff is clueless when it comes to answering questions that are basic hotel questions. The service is also very slow. It seems that their staff hasn’t been trained well, especially to the level you would expect from this price level. A few issues: The hotel is very isolated. It gives you the beautiful views but it’s so isolated you have to call up a cab which is 100 dollars. There is no hotel car and the shuttle that they speak of cannot give you rides anywhere other than checking in or out. Flies!! The hotel was infested with flies, especially in the restaurant. At any point while eating very expensive food you would be swarmed by flies. I was actually given a fly swatter when I complained so I could swat the flies flying around the table. We were informed there’s a law in Switzerland against killing flies?? The food is so expensive compared to the quality. 67 dollars for a steak. 28 dollars for a side. Drinks are 18-20 dollars. The food isn’t worth that price. The staff. They are not helpful at all. Any question you have you’re met with a stare like it’s the first time they’ve been asked. A question like “the flies are so bad in the restaurant is there anywhere else we can eat on the property?” We were told we could walk to the other resort which is a 25 minute walk. Hiring staff that is experienced in concierge or service would make this hotel much more enjoyable and worth the price you are paying.

We didn't spend the night at the hotel, just visited the SPA and had dinner served by the pool... Awesome and 100% recommended: the pool area has amazing views, facilities are great and service was perfect. We'll repeat for sure!

I came here for a night to experience lovely views of Switzerland within an hour or so of Zurich. You can get here in about 75 minutes by taxi from the airport or within 2 hours by train and bus via Lucerne and other smaller transfer points. The hotel is not that big a deal but it is nice and qualifies as a hideaway; it has a good restaurant although it is indoors (you can dine on the terrace if you want); the food is high quality but not outstanding. Breakfast on the terrace is more special although bees come to join the party; you can order anything you want from a menu and the earlier you arrive the better table you will get. There is virtually nothing to do here after dinner and my kids would be bored to death here so this place is for adults even though I saw some families with kids here (only Asians in that category). The hotel has a decent indoor swimming pool and the outdoor heated pool is quite the knockout with stunning views over the lake and the mountain range. What they really need here is a bathing suit spinner to dry the bathing suits. There is a spa here with sauna and a small gym which is pretty good. You can get a massage although mine was basically average. My room was a corner suite facing the lake; the terrace was pretty small and the room was decent size but no real wow factor and it was probably a bit overpriced. The only thing that was somewhat annoying here is that you have all these tourists taking pictures of every single thing. One Asian family probably took over 50 pictures at breakfast of every single item brought to the table and of each other posing every other minute. At the pool, people are just sitting around dragging their phones around the pool and posing for pictures. If you are accustomed to nice hotels and views at this price you don't feel the need to constantly take pictures of everything as if it is the only thing you will ever see in your entire life. You'd like to just scream at these people and suggest that maybe they would like to just LOOK at the view and EAT the food and not just take pictures of everything which you know they will never look at once they get home. Aside from that, the hotel is a nice little hideaway from the rest of the world if not from the rest of the guests. You can ride a hotel bicycle 10 minutes to the Burgenstock Resort which is beautiful and a full service property. I'm not sure what there is to do there; i saw tons of people just walking around and half of them might have been day-trippers. That hotel has a great spa and a pretty large gym. The attraction to this area is that there are a number of good activities in the area and you should know if you are interested in them before coming here. Other than that, I am not sure I'd want to return to this area. The Burgenstock requires a funicular and then a boat ride to get to Lucerne; about 40 minutes each way, and the place looked really hectic when I was visiting. I enjoy the various hideaways in this part of Switzerland but so far the only place I've found that works well for more than a day or two with family is the St. Moritz area. However, one day tour operator you would want to check out here is swissspecial.ch. I thought their offerings looked awesome. That would be the best reason to consider a trip to this area with family. I think this hotel is OK for one night; any more than that and you probably want to look at the Burgenstock or head over to the Park Hotel Vitznau for a night an hour away to get another comparable hideaway experience from down at lake level. If you had to choose between the two properties in this area, I think the Vitznau is more impressive.

I know about this hotel because of instagram, but the instagrammers have made it kind of a circus. The hotel itself is nice, the rooms are small (typical older European hotel) ... we had a suite with Alpine view .. which is not a view FYI. You are isolated, but there are some great hikes right from the hotel so there's enough to keep you busy for a day or two. When we arrived it was about 2 or 3 p.m. and people were milking their lunch to keep their table with the view (which i totally get) ... however, when I told the server we wanted to get a drink she tried to push us to this table at the back of the patio that was basically a staging area for the table settings ... even through there were plenty of two tops available. When I inquired she said they were for dinner ... when I refused to sit we finally got one of the tables, but it started the stay off on a less than luxurious and service oriented tone. The food was good but not great ... and although you think you want to sit next to the edge of the patio, it's actually better one level back because the people in the pool trying to get the perfect picture are gross and annoying. I probably wouldn't go again ...
