My husband and I and another couple just stayed three nights here and each of us felt the same way about this hotel! Simply splendid! The service, the accommodations, the staff, and the location deserve 5 stars! I’m not a person who writes many reviews but when I just get home and making it a priority to write this that should tell you something! I haven’t even unpacked yet! My husband and I have been lucky enough to have traveled to many places over the years and this hotel far exceeded expectations!

Sorry to say that the service at this hotel would not qualify as “hospitality” anywhere but perhaps among the scarcely traveled. We’ve stayed at some of the best five star hotels in the world and grew up in Pacific Heights. We usually stay at the St Regis or hotel Vitale when visiting SF but because of trip advisor reviews, I tried several times to email or call the Hotel Drisco with a couple brief questions about rooms and travel dates. Not only were my messages ignored( the recording suggests leaving a call back number), but over a weeks later a pretentious sounding young man called and was very rude telling me that I should call and email questions! I explained that I did do just that but he continued to try to put me in my place and act as if he was doing me a huge favor for taking a few seconds to talk to me. This experience told me all I need to know about Hotel Drisco. I don’t know who writes their glowing reviews but Be assured that I won’t be among those who will ever stay there.

At a time when trust is absolutely needed, trust is so readily available at this unparalleled hotel. Yes, our most recent stay totally reinforced this conclusion. Trust the front desk to do everything it can do to make your visit memorably wonderful. Trust the front desk personnel's recommendation for restaurants and other activities. Trust the astonishingly wonderful breakfast choices. Yes, the selection is a vast array of the very best in every category of --well--the very breakfasts you dream about. Trust the selection of fruit that is so fresh you think there is a garden of raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, hidden somewhere in the hotel. Oh yes, steel cut oatmeal prepared precisely as steel cut oatmeal should be prepared. You want yogurt? It is there and there are choices. Rolls and other yummy choices. Cheese, avocados, smoked fish--yes all that too. And you are greeted by the servers who want to know if you want a latte or cappuccino or other specially prepared coffee . And, the servers seem to be singing as they provide cracker-jack service. Trust that the rooms were planned to provide a thoroughly comforting time. Heated bathroom floor. Mattresses that a very comfortable. Trust that when you leave the room for your daily activity, it will be cleaned and neatened to the maximum. Trust the afternoon wine and small plate selections as being thoughtfully done. Yes, you can skip the appetizers at the restaurant you are going to because the hotel has taken care of that. Trust that your special requests will be executed beyond your expectations. Somehow the management has assembled a team the takes pride in making guests feel they are special. Trust me when I say the most difficult part of the stay at this hotel is leaving. The Dricso is still at top of the list of very special hotel experiences, a model of perfection.

I had booked this hotel based on a recommendation from the friend we were visiting that lives nearby, but we ended up canceling our reservation the day before we were due to arrive. I was reading reviews on yishengting and noticed someone mentioned the room did not have aircon. I called the hotel and was informed that there is no aircon in the whole hotel. I was told no one ever has an issue with this, but I wasn’t going to take this risk. Thankfully we changed hotels as the weekend that we were in SF turned out to be the hottest of the year. From all reports this is a lovely hotel but it would be good if it was clearly displayed on their website as it is rare for a hotel to not have this amenity.

Response from John S, General Manager at Hotel Drisco Pacific Heights

Dear Kenno12, I'm sorry that you decided not to stay with us. And you are correct that the hotel does not have air conditioning. It is not uncommon for a historic structure like the Hotel Drisco (constructed in 1903) to not have this amenity, as it is so rarely needed in San Francisco. Kind Regards, John Spear General Manager

Friendly, helpful & knowledgeable staff. Great location with excellent hotel taxi service into & around San Francisco. Our highlight being John's evening selections from the excellent array of local wines and cheeses. Plentiful & sumptuous breakfast buffet. Luxurious suite and comfortable beds. Evening chocolate shortbread treat. Tea & coffee available daily in the beautiful guest reception. In fact the whole Hotel Drisco team and package made our first visit to San Francisco very, very special. If we do find ourselves back in San Francisco again - there's only one hotel we'll be staying at - Hotel Drisco.
